Choose a season around your priorities
There is no single best month for every Tamarindo visitor. A family planning around school holidays, a surfer choosing flexible dates and a couple seeking a short beach break may make different choices. Start with what matters most: more predictable dry weather, flexible plans or a particular travel window. Then compare room availability and transport before booking flights. A seasonal guide helps you plan, but it cannot predict the weather for your exact stay.
Dry season: roughly December to April
Costa Rica’s tourism board describes the Pacific dry season broadly as December to April. It is a useful starting point if your priority is a beach-focused trip with fewer rain disruptions. Holiday dates still require planning, so check accommodation and activity availability rather than assuming you can organize everything on arrival. Bring sun protection and allow time out of the heat during the day. Dry season is not a guarantee of identical conditions every week.

Green season: roughly May to November
The tourism board generally describes May to November as green season. Keep outdoor plans flexible and check the forecast closer to travel. A rain shower does not define an entire vacation, but weather can affect transport and activities. Ask tour operators about their weather policies before paying. Choose accommodation where you are comfortable spending time between outings, and pack protection for electronics and belongings you carry outside.
For surfing, the day matters too
A season alone cannot tell you whether a session suits your ability. Tide, wind and swell need a current check, and beginners should let an instructor choose the location and timing. Surf Ranch is across from the main break and can help arrange an independent instructor or board before arrival. The outdoor shower and board rack are available at the hotel; lessons and equipment hire remain separate from accommodation.
Make your dates work for you
Compare several date combinations if your schedule allows, using the final hotel total rather than a seasonal headline rate. Keep arrival day light and leave a spare window for your most important activity. Breakfast at Café 13 runs from 8 to 10 am year-round as part of the hotel stay. Check live availability for the room type you need, especially if you want separate beds or space for four guests.
